Dr John Snow

Dr Snow is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists and an Associate of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. He has practised as a Dermatologist, Dermatopathologist and Mohs Specialist in both academic and private practice in New Zealand and in the United States of America and has held academic appointments as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland and as an Assistant Professor at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. He was Section Head of Dermatopathology at Mayo Clinic Florida, USA.  He remains a Fellow of the American Society for Dermatopathology and is a former President of the Australasian Dermatopathology Society.

Dr Snow established and staffed the first and currently the only Mohs Micrographic Surgery unit in a public hospital in New Zealand in 1995. He was also a founding member of the New Zealand Society for Mohs Surgery and a Fellow of the American Society for Mohs Surgery.

Dr Snow considers himself to be a Clinical Dermatopathologist with a particular interest and skillset in clinico-pathologic correlation that facilitates the best possible outcomes for his patients in terms of accurate diagnosis and treatment.  He has practised throughout his career by following in the footsteps of, and adhering to, the mantra of the great German pioneer of Dermatology and Dermatopathology, Dr Paul Unna (1850-1929), who stated in 1928 that,

“The dermatologist should always consider the clinical picture with the eye of the microscopist and the histological findings with the eye of the clinician”

Dr Snow is also an adherent of the core philosophy of his alma mater Mayo Clinic as espoused by one of its founding surgeons, Dr William J. Mayo (1861-1939) who stated in 1910 that,

“The best interest of the patient is the only interest to consider”

Dr Snow brings this approach and philosophy to his work as a Dermatologist specialising in Skin Cancer management and Mohs Micrographic Surgery at the Adelaide Skin and Eye Centre and to his work as a Consultant Dermatopathologist at Clinpath Pathology in Adelaide.
